ROBIN UTHAPPA - THE KING

Gambhir and Uthappa have matured - Dhoni

The Indian captain MS DHONI lavishes praises on our KING UTHAPPA and Gautam Ghambhir during an interview after the victory against Australia..
Mahendra Singh Dhoni said the Twenty20 victory over Australia would give his team momentum as they prepare to take on Pakistan in a one-day and Test series starting next month.

"This victory, as well as the last ODI victory, will give us a lot of confidence. International cricket is more about confidence than technique," Dhoni said after India beat Australia in the one-off Twenty20 International at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

"Gautam (Gambhir) and Robin (Uthappa) have matured and played aggressively," he said while praising his side for coming out with a fearless outlook. "They are aggressive but at times they may fail trying for shots and they may be criticised for playing rash shots but that's how it is."

The new pitch used for the game helped the spinners; Harbhajan Singh and Murali Kartik did not disappoint despite having to bowl in tough situations. "Kartik was preferred over Joginder because of conditions," Dhoni said. "In India, we have to generally sacrifice the fourth seamer for second spinner. Today we batted well and bowled well but fielding was not good because of the bumpy ground. Everyone responded well to responsibilities given to them and that is why we won."

Dhoni's counterpart, Ricky Ponting, felt his team did not get enough runs on the board. "We fell short by 15 runs. We gave away too many extras - 23 extras means four extra overs. We did it the other night also and we need to buck up," he said. "Harabhan and Kartik bowled well. Gambhir batted well. We would like to play more matches against the new generation Indian players."

Twenty20 cricket is like a picnic: Uthappa

Picture
When asked what he feels about the T20 format this is what UTHAPPA the KING has to say!!!
On the eve of the first ever Twenty20 International on Indian soil, batsman Robin Uthappa said on Friday that the shortest version of the game is like a picnic to be enjoyed by both the players and public. "Twenty20 cricket is a picnic kind of thing. You should enjoy this game," he said at Brabourne Stadium where the home side will take on one-day champions Australia in a one-off match. Earlier in the day, Australia captain Ricky Ponting also called Twenty20 an "enjoyable format" of cricket. Uthappa, who was a member of the Indian team that won the Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa last month, said that fortunes change quickly in this version.

"It changes in a matter of five balls ... the whole mindset (of players) is different," averred the Karnataka batsman.
Uthappa, however, hinted that he, for one, did not exactly like this version based on 20 overs per innings.
"Personally (speaking), this is not the best version of the game for me. But Indian spectators will enjoy it," he said.
On the raging topic of gamesmanship between players, Uthappa had an open mind.

"It's not a bad thing to happen on the field," he said of the chitchat that has hogged headlines throughout the just concluded seven-match One-Day International series that Australia won 4-2 on Wednesday.

On rowdy spectators, Uthappa said that they should draw a line somewhere while watching international matches.
"When something rules have been put up, people should abide by those. They should follow the rules," he suggested.
Uthappa, who scored 167 runs at 33.40 in the just concluded ODI series, is looking forward to the Twenty20 game.
